At Lindt & Sprüngli, machine operators have a sweet job

The Digital Factory Platform, Autexis’ MES, supports employees at the Swiss chocolate producer in their day-to-day work. Thanks to end-to-end digitalization of shop-floor processes, new standards are being set in terms of efficiency and sustainability.

Lindt & Sprüngli is a renowned Swiss manufacturer of chocolate products, known for its high-quality pralines and chocolate creations. The long-established company consistently relies on Autexis’ digitalization solutions to digitalize, modernize, and make its production processes more efficient. To this end, Lindt implemented the Digital Factory Platform as a Manufacturing Execution System (MES). The software, consisting of eight powerful modules, covers all production management requirements and enables end-to-end digitalization of shop-floor processes. This allows all production orders to be transmitted directly from the central SAP system to the individual machines and systems in Lindt’s production. The machine operator selects the orders digitally, starts the production steps, and simultaneously receives all the key information needed for the respective tasks. In an initial phase, the Bühler Utzwil Bindler96 molding system was successfully connected, followed step by step by additional systems.

Another outstanding feature of the solution is the digital support it provides to machine operators in their day-to-day work: tasks such as quality checks, cleaning the equipment, settings for different production requirements, and regular maintenance work are displayed automatically. The machine operator is guided intuitively through the work steps, which reduces errors and ensures consistently high quality. Through real-time integration with the individual systems and machines, the software reads data directly from the controllers. This data is either fed back to the SAP system as current actual values or used for real-time monitoring of the production equipment, enabling seamless process control and a rapid response to any deviations. As a result, production steps are not only accelerated but also optimized—an essential prerequisite for meeting Lindt’s high quality standards.

The Shiftbook module provides particularly valuable support for machine operators by allowing them to document observations and experiences directly. This significantly simplifies internal communication and knowledge transfer between shifts. Experiences, solutions to problems, and important notes can be recorded in the shift log so that the entire team benefits from a continuous flow of knowledge.

The benefits of Autexis’ Digital Factory Platform are clear: the entire production process can be carried out without paper, increasing efficiency and enabling machine operators to focus on value-adding tasks. This paperless documentation reduces administrative effort and creates transparency in work processes. Thanks to the automatic feedback of actual values to the central SAP system, Lindt also receives precise, up-to-date consumption data. This makes resource consumption and production costs even easier to track and optimize, contributing in the long term to more sustainable and cost-efficient production.

Overall, the Lindt & Sprüngli example shows how digitalization solutions can not only increase efficiency, but also create the foundation for transparent, paperless, and sustainable production. With Autexis’ Digital Factory Platform, Lindt has taken a decisive step toward the future—one that not only strengthens competitiveness, but also lays the groundwork for further growth and innovation.
